Wat Prathat Doi Suthep Chedi May 2015
This panorama shows the Golden Stupa (Chedi) Wat Prathat Doi Suthep Temple. The chedi used to be copper-plated but the temple's wealth has allowed it to go for a gold plating. The mountain and the temple are named after the hermit Sudeva who used to live on the mountain slopes for many years. The Wat Prathat Doi Suthep was established in 1383 under King Keu Naone. It is one of Northern Thailand's most sacred temples and definitely a must-visit when in Chiang Mai.
Worshippers and merit-makers walk around the chedi in a clockwise direction, holding a single lotus flower and some incense in their hands, while reciting prayers.
