Wat Tung Yu Outside February 2014
Wat Tung Yu has a display of two monks separated by a Buddha footprint covered by a Hti (umbrella). The golden statue on the left is Kruba Srivichai (1878-1938), one of the most revered monks of the Lanna Kingdom, whose monument is on the foot of Doi Suthep Mountain. Kruba Srivichai oversaw the construction of many wats (temples) around Chiang Mai. He initiated and oversaw the construction of the road that leads up to Wat Prathat Doi Suthep. His popularity attracted many volunteers and the road was completed in only 5 months. Kruba commenced his studies at Wat Ban Pang in Lamphun aged eighteen. His modesty, good deeds and charisma made him very popular. Today he's considered the Nak Bun Haeng Lanna, the Saint of Lanna.
